Our Story
The mission of Redemption Hill Church can be summed up by one phrase:
“Just don’t go to church, be the church.”
Redemption Hill Church started as a heartfelt reaction by Pastor Jim Donahue to Matthew 9:35-37. In this passage, Jesus was going to every town and village ministering to the hurts and needs of people and preaching the good news of how he came to rescue them from the devastating consequences of sin.
He looked upon the crowds gathered around him and had compassion for them. He saw that they were weighed down by life’s stresses and burdens with no hope or direction for life. Jesus then tells his followers to pray for themselves and others to be filled with that same compassion for those who may feel far from God.
Today, St. Charles County is no different. Demographic studies reveal that there are 114,000 residents who claim no church affiliation. We live more technologically connected than any society in history, and yet people are more lonely, anxious, fearful, and hopeless than ever before. People feel an emptiness that nothing this world offers can fill.
Could Jesus Christ be the answer to what ails us?
Jim has been a pastor for 32 years and has been married to his wife Lisa for 37. They have raised their 3 sons in St. Charles and are now blessed with 6 beautiful grandchildren.
Jim and Lisa desire to see Christ’s followers today break out of their comfortable consumer, spectator brand of Christianity to become Christians whose hearts are filled with compassion for those outside of the church. The church desires to serve people from all walks of life who are hurting and need to see Jesus as the one who has answers to life’s suffering, pain, and loss.
We believe that church life was meant to be an adventure with Christ, where his followers are laying their lives down to reach hurting people who are outside of the church with the love and good news of Jesus. If this sounds attractive to you, come on by, we’d love to meet you.
